Viber – Free Calls and Messages

viber free calls and messagesViber is an Android and iPhone application that lets you make free phone calls and send free text messages to other users that have Viber installed.

These days, many Android phone users have contracts which allow them either a huge amount of free calls and texts or a large amount of data (non-wifi internet, etc), but rarely do you get both unless you pay through the nose. If you want to make the most of Android and your smartphone, having a data allowance is pretty important even if it means your call and text package is reduced. On top of that, international calls are almost always excluded from any free calls packages, meaning that one call to the US or elsewhere in the world can cost you a fortune. Well now you can have the best of both worlds, thanks to Viber Free Calls and Texts.

Viber is very hot at the moment and is seeing some huge download numbers from Android Market. As the name suggest, Viber allows you to make free calls and send free texts to anyone who also has the app installed on their phone. The app used a VOIP system to connect your calls, so you will still need to have a working WiFi or data connection, but very little data is actually needed. Obviously, if you don’t have a free data package the calls will cost you something, just much less than making a normal mobile call outside of your bundled minutes.

One of the best things about Viber, aside from the free calls and texts, is the ease with which you can connect with friends and relatives. You don’t need to login and create a username like you do with most other VOIP apps, you simply enter the number of the Viber user you wish to contact and the app connects you. There is no need to add “buddies” and wait for them to approve you. You might also notice that the sound quality of Viber calls is better than the standard call quality on your phone (depending on your handset).

Viber is completely free, as are all of the features it includes. There is no in-app billing for add-ons and, even better, it doesn’t feature any of the adverts that most free apps use to generate revenue. This gives it the feel of a paid app, rather than a free one. Obviously the usefulness of this app depends greatly on how many of your contacts also have the app installed. But if you don’t have a free calls and texts package or if you have family overseas with smartphones, give Viber a try. You won’t be sorry.
