Are iPhone and Android Killing NDS?
Is the rise of mobile gaming on iPhone and Android killing the NDS?
Well it certainly appears that way. Figures show that the two leading smartphone platforms now account for 58% of the US mobile gaming market, an increase of nearly 40% since 2009. In that year Nintendo held a massive 70% of all mobile gaming. This figure has dropped to 36% in 2011.
If the trend continues, and we see no reason why it wouldn’t with Smartphones becoming more and more powerful, the years ahead could be very tough for the Nintendo DS.
Figures for Sony’s PSP system also took a drop, although they had less far to fall. A share of 11% in 2009 has been shrunk to just 6% today.
