If you want to start using a new BlackBerry, you can use the BlackBerry Desktop Software to securely transfer your data and settings to the new device. Your device data and settings from your previous BlackBerry device, such as supported email messages, organizer data, and third-party applications that are compatible with your new device, are imported to your new device. If your email account is associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, your email settings are also imported to your new device.
Desktop Software
Before you switch from your current BlackBerry device to a new BlackBerry device, you should verify that you have the most recent version of the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
Switch your device
Step 1 – Connect your current device to your computer with a USB cable, open the desktop software and click on Device > Device Switch.
Step 2 – Click on the icon for your current device and then tick the check boxes for Device Data and Third Party Applications (assuming you want to copy these).
Step 3 – Click Next and wait for your device data to be backed up. Make sure you do not interupt this process.
Step 4 – When prompted, disconnect your old BlackBerry and connect the new one to the USB cable. Click on Next when it has connected.
Step 5 – Click on the icon for your new BlackBerry and wait while your data and apps are transferred. A message will tell you when everything has been copied onto the new device.
Sim and Media Card
The only things left to do now is disconnect your new BlackBerry, turn it off and insert you SIM card and Media card (if you have one). If you are switching from a device that is associated with the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), open the email setup screen, in the setup wizard, on your new device and update your device PIN.
